Former college track star turned Print and Fitness Model, Carmen Crews, began to discover her athletic talents after she tried out for the track and field team in high school. Just 2 months after her first tryout she finished 4th in the 200m at her first major track meet.
She was named "High School Athlete of the Year" her senior year by Women Who Run when she finished first in the 200m at the US Indoor Track & Field Championships. She also won 3 gold medals when she competed in the Golden League for the 400m, 200m, and 100m race.
Unfortunately, during her sophomore year in college, Carmen suffered a career-ending injury to her right hamstring shortly after the Golden League events.
Carmen dropped out of college due to the depression she developed after the injury. She shared she was unable to focus on her studies and felt like a complete failure.
“Track and Field was all I knew. It was the only thing I was good at! So when I had to quit because of the injury, I no longer felt motivated to continue on with school. I couldn’t afford it anyway so I really didn’t see the purpose.”
